The Back River Watershed Association was happy to host a tour of the Back River, See details of the tour in the link below.
The Back River Watershed Association is happy to have produced a series of shows during the 2021 Herring Run Season.
Special Thanks to all at WCA including Jeff, Dan and Seth! You guys know how to make it happen!
The BRWA has always been most grateful for the awareness the town and the state has regarding the herring run. Because we know the natural heritage of the herring run is priceless, we find ourselves very confused as we read the plans for the Lovell Field Bridge, with a cost of more than $400,000. The environment and the herring run will be changed forever with the removal of more than 50 trees. This destruction of the trees in this area will change the leaf canopy above the run. This, in turn, changes the ecosystem including the bird population, which in turn changes the predation activity on the run when the herring are here, which in turn changes the herring population.
Come see the latest at Great Esker Park! This interpretive panel gives visitors at Great Esker Park some interesting information about one of Weymouth's Hidden Gems.
The Back River Watershed Association, Inc. is a 501 (c)3 tax exempt, non profit organization. It is organization to preserve, protect, and promote the Back River and its watershed in Weymouth, Hingham and parts of Abington, Rockland and Braintree. The BRWA is a member of the Mass Bays Program hosted by the CZM.
Continuing to ensure the natural heritage of the Back River Watershed is understood, respected and enjoyed, Linda DiAngelo is the current President of the BWRA. A student, and then friend, of Mary Toomey, Linda is a lifelong resident of Weymouth.
It all started when one person saw something that needed to be done, formed partnerships and did it. The Tale of Two Marys is a shining example of how people in the community can work together and partner with groups to make great stuff happen!
Quite simply our mission is to Preserve, Protect and Promote all the greatness of the natural heritage of the Back River Watershed. Stepping in to ensure the legacy of the two Marys continue, we work to ensure the natural heritage of the Back River remains.
We recently raised money to ensure the publication of the book, "The Ecology of the Back River" and working on educational videos about the watershed and the herring run. Additionally, we have recurring expenses such as filing fees and hosting fees. We sure could use your help with these expenses!
