The BRWA on WCA for the 2021 HErring Run

2021 The beginning of a historic run!

With spawning in the Mill River and in Old Swamp River between the north and south bound lanes of Rt 3, 2021 was a most interesting year for the Herring Run in Weymouth!

Phil Lofgren talks about the Herring

Phil knows fish!

Birds on the Run with Lisa Irwin

Weymouth's own natrual heritage photographer Lisa Irwin shares her spectacular photos of some of Weymouth's most spectacular residents!

From Phil, "The Fish Feel Good"

Water - if there is water, everyone feels good!

Where you would least expect it!

Old Swamp River runs between the North and Southbound lanes of Rt 3.  Yep - herring love it there to spawn!  And we see it for the first time!

Sometimes what we think is a good thing...

There are always unintended consequences.

Let's not be afraid to fix a mistake.

The Mill River in jeopardy?

Historically, the herring ran up Mill River to Great Pond. One has to wonder how come they don't make the run now?  We found them spawning in the part of the Mill River that enters Whitmans Pond.
The herring couldn't go any further.
As we think about development, we must consider our natural heritage and recognize the herring are residents here too.  And they have been here much longer they us..

Here's to helping all the fisheries!

The new Flood Control System designed to help the smelt.

Here's to it being good for the Herring too!

Thanks to Jeff, Dan and Seth!

And all at WCA for helping us get our Herring Run Series produced!
